US-based manufacturer Hub Labels has acquired a new press from MPS to produce linerless labels.

The automated MPS EF is a multi-substrate flexographic press, designed for both high-quality label production and flexible packaging printing.

The EF will also enable Hub Labels to print a range of substrates, including thin film, paper, shrink sleeves and flexible packaging.

“It’s new packaging technology rollout for Perdue, so there’s a lot of cool pieces of innovation here with this.”

MPS North America area sales manager Michael Weyermann added: “This press offers them new capabilities in the high-speed production of various substrates, especially the production of sustainable, environmentally friendly linerless labels.”

Hub Labels operates a 110,000ft² facility in Shawley Drive in Hagerstown, Maryland, which manufactures pressure-sensitive and linerless labels.

According to Hub Labels president Thomas Dahbura, the company is currently involved in a new business relationship with Perdue Farms, which is a US-based chicken, turkey and pork processing company.

Dahbura said: “It’s new packaging technology rollout for Perdue, so there’s a lot of cool pieces of innovation here with this. We’re using linerless labels and Perdue is using this technology called vacuum seal, vacuum pack. That preserves the product for a longer period of time. The only way to decorate it is by using linerless labels.”

Linerless labels are pressure-sensitive labels with no liner or backing paper, which is found on traditional pressure-sensitive labels.

Hub Labels is one of two companies that produce linerless labels in the US.
