FLEXcon has added a Globally Harmonized System (GHS-compliant) polypropylene film for chemical labelling to its DRUMcal line to support printers and converters servicing the petroleum and chemical industries.
The DRUMcal 51932 is a 2.3ml white thermal transfer printable polypropylene film which is topcoated for thermal transfer printability and uses a general purpose permanent adhesive supported by a 50lb Kraft post-consumer waste liner.
The new product allows firms operating in refineries and the chemical sector to print variable information on labels through thermal transfer.
FLEXcon vice president John Bennett said that for chemical manufacturers, printing GHS labels in-house as part of their packaging process is an easy and cost-effective task.
"The transition to GHS communications standards is a significant task that will require chemical manufacturers to re-document and re-label all chemical products by the deadline date," Bennett added.
The GHS has been developed by the United Nations as a way to unify the chemical regulations and standards of different countries with a standard criteria for classification and labelling on a global level. Manufacturers and end users must include specific information on all primary and secondary container labels, including product identifiers, signal words, hazard statements and supplier identification by the end of 2014.
