Africa Packaging Organisation (APO) is launching the AfriStar Awards for special achievements by packaging firms operating in Africa.
Firms will be judged based on categories including the product-package relationship, product-consumer relations and package-system relationships.
The product-package relationship category calls for good packaging containment and protection to survive Africa’s unique conditions. Good product-consumer relations are for firms that lead in consumer information, education and guarantees. The package-system relationship determines the long-term sustainability of packages in the African market.
APO has stated that packaging products must be produced in African countries, and awards will be given for substrates and special circumstances or achievements, in addition to the normal product categories. The winners of the awards may be elected to the WorldStar Awards also.
The AfriStar Awards entry process will start in March and end on 30 June. The judging process is slated for the middle of July. The winners of the awards will be announced in September.
Following this year’s event, the awards will then take place every two years. APO members include national packaging organisations from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Tunisia.
