Nexgen Packaging, a leading global supplier of garment trims and packaging solutions, has officially opened its African headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Kenyan President William Ruto and US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman, highlighting the significance of this expansion.
The new facility, situated within the Athi River Export Processing Zone, represents a major commitment from Nexgen to the African market. It serves as a central hub for the continent, bolstering existing operations in Egypt and West Africa.
Notably, Kenya becomes Nexgen’s primary production location in Africa.
Nexgen CEO Jim Welch emphasised the company’s dedication to supporting the growing demand for African-made apparel, footwear, and home goods.
“Our investment in this new facility underscores how Nexgen is contributing to the current and future needs of our customers. With the growing demand for apparel, footwear and home products made in Africa, Nexgen is excited to be leading the industry with the launch of this state-of-the-art, sustainable facility,” stated Welch.

By GlobalDataSustainability is a core focus for the new facility. Constructed using upcycled shipping containers by Contech Container Technology, the building incorporates eco-friendly elements like solar-powered lights and bamboo light posts.
This commitment has earned the facility EDGE certification, recognising its green building practices.

The Nairobi facility offers a comprehensive range of sustainable packaging solutions, including care labels, heat transfers, variable data products like RFID tags and stickers, brand identification elements, woven labels, and more.
Additionally, Nexgen is creating nearly 100 new jobs in the region, spanning production, sales, marketing, finance, and administration.
This expansion strengthens Nexgen’s position as a key player in the African apparel and packaging industry, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, customer needs, and regional growth.
