Kraton, a producer of speciality polymers and high-value biobased products, has received the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Critical Guidance Recognition for its CirKular+ additives for polyethylene (PE) flexible films.
This recognition includes the CirKular+ C1000 and C1010 Compatibilisation Series, and the C2000 Performance Enhancement Series.
The additives are said to meet or exceed the voluntary requirements for APR Design for Recyclability.
They were evaluated using stringent, industry-accepted criteria that includes a range of design features impacting plastics recycling.
The APR’s FPE-CG-01 protocol revealed that the C1000 and C2000 series can be implemented in PE films with up to 5% ethylene vinyl alcohol with loadings of 2% and 3%, respectively.
In addition, the C1010 can be used with up to 10% Nylon 6 with loadings of 3% and the C2000 series with 2% loadings.

By GlobalDataKraton strategy marketing global director Yuliya Streen said: “This recognition highlights Kraton’s role in enhancing the recyclability of plastic product designs and maximising the use of PCR resin.
“Kraton’s CirKular+ technology helps our customers achieve their sustainability goals and lower carbon footprint.”
The APR Critical Guidance Protocol is a globally accepted measure for evaluating recyclability in plastic packaging design.
Previously, CirKular+ additives have been recognised by APR for use in polypropylene (PP) containers and high-density PE (HDPE) bottles and certified in Europe by RecyClass for compatibility with HDPE and PP container recycling.
Kraton strategic marketing and product management global VP Pedro Lopes said: “We are excited to receive another Critical Guidance Recognition from APR for our CirKular+ Compatibilisation and Performance Enhancement Series.”
Last month, Kraton received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification PLUS certification for its manufacturing facility in Belpre, Ohio, US.
