Major players from the polymer industry have established the Advanced Packaging Association (APA) AISBL, a non-profit organisation to advance polyamide-based packaging. 

Founders of the organisation include BASF, Grupa Azoty ATT Polymers, UBE, ENVALIOR, and DOMO Chemicals.

Despite the established recyclability of polyethylene/polyamide packaging, the APA will continue to highlight the benefits of the durable and lightweight packaging solution, the companies said.   

Specifically, the APA’s efforts will include engaging with various stakeholders in the flexible packaging value chain to enhance the understanding of polyamide’s sustainable properties and its role in packaging. 

APA president Nicola Bucchioni said: “APA invites all actors in the value chain to join forces to confirm high-performance packaging solutions as the most reasonable options to achieve food and plastic savings, or in other words, the best possible sustainability and circularity in advanced packaging. Join us in this noble and meaningful mission.” 

Polyamide has been integral to advanced packaging for many years, offering high performance with minimal material use, according to the APA.
