Manufacturer and recycler of packaging solutions ALPLA has unveiled its public art installation “Nice Time” in Atlanta, Georgia, as part of its sustainability education campaign called Plastic Reimagined.

The company has partnered with artist Hyland Mather to create and install the large-scale art piece.

Installed against a large wall, the three-dimensional piece is created with plastics discovered by Mather throughout Atlanta, and recyclable plastics collected by ALPLA employees.

These include types 1 (polyethylene terephthalate, or PET), 2 (high-density polyethylene, or HDPE), and 5 (polypropylene, or PP).

The interactive artwork will be displayed at The Grove in Atlanta throughout summer 2024.

Plastic Reimagined is an ongoing sustainability initiative by ALPLA designed to provide reliable and action-based content to consumers on how to reduce plastic pollution.

ALPLA sustainability manager Billy Rice commented: “We’re inspired by how Hyland Mather exemplified upcycling with plastics through his art, and hope that it will lead people to reimagine all the possibilities for plastics and drive their actions towards sustainability.”

Mather added: “Reimagining our relationship with common and necessary materials is part of our responsibility in the world.”

ALPLA recently partnered with Re-Purpose to invest in and develop its PET recycling facility in Africa.
