Crown Holdings, a supplier of rigid packaging products, has announced a significant reduction in its scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 16% for the year 2023 from the 2019 baseline.
This milestone was highlighted in the company’s 2023 Sustainability Report, released yesterday (29 July).

The report also noted a 28% decrease in scope 3 emissions since 2019, despite supply chain variations and business expansion.
As part of its Twentyby30 programme, Crown aims to cut absolute scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030, aligning with the overarching 1.5°C target.
Concurrently, Crown is targeting a 16% reduction in absolute scope 3 GHG emissions over the same period.
In a move towards reducing material usage in packaging, Crown also managed to make its aluminium and steel cans 10% lighter in 2023.

By GlobalDataIn addition, Crown’s Transit Packaging division is reportedly contributing to the company’s sustainability efforts by reducing the environmental impact of its strapping and wrapping products.
The new product lines within that segment now contain a minimum of 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, lessening the dependence on virgin plastic.
In collaboration with the International Aluminium Institute and Roland Berger, Crown conducted a comprehensive recycling rates study for key Asia-Pacific markets, including Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, and the United Arab Emirates.

In March this year, Crown Holdings’ Mexican operations received the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative Chain of Custody Standard V2 certification.
