Mondi, a global packaging and paper company, has announced that more than 95% of its release liners and extrusion solutions are now sourced from certified base paper.

According to the company, the majority of papers used for these solutions are now certified by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

This milestone underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable sourcing and supply chain transparency.

The shift to certified paper sources supports responsible forest management and traceability.

The company’s move aligns with its Mondi Action Plan 2030 (MAP2030) goals, which focus on circular-driven packaging and paper solutions and climate action.

As part of MAP2030, the company said that 85% of its revenue was from packaging and paper products that were reusable, recyclable, or compostable as of 2023.

Mondi Functional Paper and Films Sales and Business Development director Jurgen Van der Donck said: “As part of our MAP2030 goals, we are committed to circular-driven packaging and paper solutions and taking action on climate change. Offering a product portfolio made from certified paper is part of this commitment.

“This step helps us to improve our range of release liners and extrusion solutions, such as our FunctionalBarrier Paper range, while providing the best possible solutions for our customers and end users.”

In June this year, Mondi unveiled ProVantage SmartKraft Brown and White, its new containerboard grades that blend fresh and recycled fibres.

Last month, the packaging and paper group reported ‘robust performance’ with underlying earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation at €565m ($611.54m) for the first half of financial year 2024.
