Sidel, a global provider of packaging solutions for the beverage industry, has announced that its Actis barrier coating has achieved the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Design for Recyclability Recognition.
This recognition underscores Sidel’s commitment to sustainable packaging solutions.
The APR Design for Recyclability Recognition is a rigorous assessment that evaluates packaging components for their compatibility with current recycling processes.
To earn this recognition, Sidel’s Actis coating underwent independent testing and was reviewed by an APR committee.
Actis is a plasma coating technology that provides enhanced barrier protection for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, extending the shelf life for carbonated soft drinks, beer, and oxygen-sensitive beverages.
This innovative solution not only improves product quality but also contributes to sustainability goals.

By GlobalData“At Sidel we place a high priority on recyclability in designing our packaging material. Ensuring full circularity of our packaging material without compromising on the quality of the post-consumer recycled material,” said Naima Boutroy, global packaging expert at Sidel.
Actis bottles are already approved for food-grade bottle-to-bottle recycling.
Beyond its recyclability, Actis offers significant environmental benefits.
By reducing the amount of PET material needed in bottle production, Actis helps conserve resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
For example, a standard 500ml PET bottle can achieve a 24-week shelf life with Actis while saving up to 20% of greenhouse gas emissions.
With more than 30 Actis systems installed globally, Sidel has helped to produce billions of bottles with enhanced barrier protection and improved sustainability.
This recognition from APR reinforces Sidel’s position as a leader in sustainable packaging solutions for the beverage industry.
