Paper solution provider Saica Group has completed the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging’s operations in Poland.

The deal, agreed by the two parties in July this year, was approved by the Polish antitrust authorities.

The agreement included the segment’s management team and employees, two corrugated board plants in Bydgoszcz and Wroclaw, two paper mills in Grudziadz and Myszków, and three service centres.

With this strategic move, Saica Group has expanded its presence in Poland, now employing more than 1,500 individuals.

The acquisition is expected to increase Saica’s production capacity by 420,000 tonnes (t) of recycled paper for corrugated cardboard and boost corrugated cardboard production capacity by an additional 530 million square metres.

The move aligns with Saica Group’s business development strategy and marks a substantial advancement in its infrastructure and services within Central and Eastern Europe.

This expansion is anticipated to enhance the range of paper solutions for corrugated cardboard manufacturing and packaging in Poland while emphasising the development of a circular economy business model.

Saica Group president and CEO Susana Alejandro said: “We are very happy to integrate Schumacher’s team within Saica Group, its knowledge and skills are highly appreciated in the sector. At Saica Group, people make the difference: they are what drives our organisation. We are convinced they will contribute to Saica´s future and its success.

“This operation is a very important milestone for us, it is a step forward in Saica´s business growth strategy, not only by continuing our expansion into the Polish market, but also with the aim of further developing our infrastructures and services in Eastern Europe. It is part of the development plans of the company defined by Saica 2025, the strategic plan of the company.”

The synergies from these acquisitions are poised to assist customers in transitioning towards circular economy principles.

Saica entered the Polish market back in 2011 through a joint venture with Thimm Group, acquiring a corrugated cardboard packaging plant in Tychy named TOP THIMM.
