Czech cosmetic products manufacturer Union Cosmetic has initiated a shift from plastic packaging to cartons with the D-PAK packaging cartons from Elopak.
The company’s Twister brand, which includes washing gel and fabric softener, introduced this sustainable packaging switch in September 2024.
The Twister products are now available in 1l cartons at major Czech retailers such as Globus, Norma, and Metro cash and carry.
Union Cosmetic managing director Vojtěch Dubec said: “The fundamental difference between D-PAK cartons and conventional plastic packaging in our segment is its lighter weight and lower carbon footprint compared to plastics, aluminium or glass. Cartons are fully recyclable, made from wood pulp sourced from controlled forests and contain 86% less plastic than conventional packaging.
“We see great potential in this new type of packaging. It is great for products such as washing gels, fabric softeners or liquid soap dispenser refills. We are firmly convinced that products packaged in this way will soon become an interesting alternative for consumers who strive to be more sustainable and protect the environment.”
This move is part of Union Cosmetic’s broader strategy to offer consumers more sustainable everyday product choices, with plans to extend the carton packaging to liquid soaps and other brands.

By GlobalDataElopak has been instrumental in this transition, providing Union Cosmetic with comprehensive support ranging from technical assistance to marketing and design development.
The collaboration is set to continue, with Union Cosmetic aiming to convert more products to carton packaging and to introduce 500ml cartons alongside the existing 1l packs.
Dubec added: “Next year, we will be expanding our carton family with more of our detergent products in larger 1.5 and 2L cartons so that we get closer to the volumes consumers are used to buying in plastic bottles.”
“Working together with our Elopak colleagues we are finalizing different versions of the carton which will allow us to expand further products into more sustainable packaging. For now, thanks to the D-PAK cartons, our consumers can wash efficiently, gently and with respect to the environment – clean laundry, clean planet.”
