Schreiner Group’s pharmaceutical labels manufacturing unit Schreiner MediPharm has unveiled a novel cut-through indicator function for closure seals to make any tampering attempts immediately visible.

This innovation is set to improve the security of pharmaceutical packaging, ensuring the integrity of the healthcare supply chain.

The cut-through indicator is not a one-size-fits-all solution but a modular feature tailored to fit various closure seals.

It is customisable for different materials and designs, aligning with the specific needs of each pharmaceutical product. The single-layer structure of the indicator allows for a flexible and cost-effective application.

Its distinctive die-cutting contours make any lateral shifts or tampering-related defects noticeable.

Additional security features such as raised structures and irregular outer contours can be incorporated to enhance protection. The cut-through indicator can also include special graphic elements such as guilloches for authentication purposes.

The indicator complies with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 21976 and European Falsified Medicines Directive 2011/62/EU standards, meeting the highest security standards.

Once the seal is cut, the tampering becomes irrevocably visible, thwarting common methods of illicitly accessing the contents of folding boxes.

Counterfeit or tampered drugs pose significant health risks and can damage the reputation of pharmaceutical companies.

Last year, the company conducted tests on its tamperproof tailored void labels for pharmaceutical packaging to be adapted to the relevant packaging and application.
