France-based UNI Packaging produced digitally printed bags for Bensdorp’s new Barista range of cocoa and chocolate drink powders.
Bensdorp is a part of chocolate products maker Barry Callebaut’s B2B beverage division, Barry Callebaut Beverages UK.
The new Barista range offers three different drink powders packed in a 750g vertical form filled seal, 3-ply laminated stand-up bag.
Packaging Corporation of America to buy Columbus Container for $100m
Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) signed a definitive agreement to purchase US-based corrugated products manufacturer Columbus Container for $100m.
As part of the cash-free, debt-free deal, PCA acquired Columbus Container’s full-line corrugated products facility, located in Indiana, US.
The deal also included Columbus Container’s five warehousing facilities and other related operations situated in Indiana and Illinois.
Coveris to unveil new Nextrus boneless shrink bags next month
UK-based packaging provider Coveris was set to unveil its new Nextrus boneless shrink bags in November.
Launched at the upcoming Pack Expo in Chicago, Illinois, US, the new Nextrus bags will be used for protein packaging.
Coveris said that Nextrus’ shrink capabilities enable vacuum tightness with less packaging, and have made the product more eco-friendly than its existing counterparts.
Sonoco invests in new high-performance film core production equipment at US facility
US-based diversified packaging company Sonoco invested in high-performance film core production equipment at its facility in Hartsville, South Carolina.
The investment will also enable the company to provide improved cores for various high-performance film markets.
Sonoco currently provides cores for photovoltaic applications, as well as medical, optical, window, packaging, industrial and battery separator films.

US-based Catbridge developed a new modular duplex slitter rewinder system for the flexible packaging market.
Created in the company’s facility in Montville, New Jersey, US, the new 900-M duplex centre winder will allow Catbridge to expand its new converting machinery portfolio.
Capable of functioning continuously, the 900-M winder helps save time during production.
RPC Promens Consumer Llantrisant creates new plastic bottle for Plenish
RPC Promens Consumer Llantrisant, a unit of UK-based RPC Group, developed a custom-moulded bottle for Plenish’s new Water+ range of probiotic drink.
The Water+ range includes the lime cucumber, pineapple ginger and blueberry pear flavours.
RPC said that its 330ml polyethylene terephthalate (PET) clear bottle create a strong on-shelf impression and provide a large area for labels.
Clariant launches plastic-based anti-counterfeiting system PLASTIWARD
In partnership with SICPA, Clariant Healthcare Polymer Solutions launched PLASTIWARD, a new plastic-based anti-counterfeiting system.
The solution was revealed at the annual CPhI Worldwide event, held in Barcelona, Spain.
Through its partnership with SICPA, Clariant offers a covert taggant additive, which is available in polymer compounds or masterbatch concentrates.
Indian Government bans plastic packaging for tobacco
India’s Ministry of Environment and Forests banned companies from using plastic material to pack tobacco, gutkha and pan masala products.
The order came after gutkha, tobacco and pan masala manufacturing businesses failed to comply with Supreme Court orders and new plastic waste management (PWM) rules.
The ban aims to reduce the volume of non-biodegradable waste generated by plastic packaging.
Canada’s Niagara Region installs new polystyrene densifier technology at recycling centre
A new polystyrene foam densifier was unveiled at a recycling centre in Niagara Region, which is the first municipality in Ontario, Canada, to have installed the technology.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Canadian Plastics Industry Association (CPIA) and Waste Diversion Ontario’s Continuous Improvement Fund.
The new polystyrene foam densifier will improve the region’s ability to divert waste from landfills and manufacture high-quality end products from recyclable material.
