Indian packaging film manufacturer Cosmo Films has commissioned its second cast polypropylene (CPP) line and fourth metalliser at its Karjan facility in Gujarat.
The new 2.85m CPP line and metalliser will have an annual production capacity of 7,500Mt.
Cosmo Films further noted that its new CPP line is a five-layered system, which has been designed to produce speciality films for various packaging applications.
The 2.85m metalliser is also equipped with an advanced control monitoring system and a closed-loop auto-deposition control system.
With this installation, the company intends to increase the capacity of its annual CPP films from 1,800Mt to 9,300Mt, and that of its metallised films from 15,000Mt to 22,500Mt.
In addition to the new lines, the Karjan facility houses biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) lines, extrusion and chemical coating lines, as well as a metalliser.

By GlobalDataCosmo Films CEO Pankaj Poddar said: “Apart from being a focussed BOPP player over the years, we have made significant efforts in recent times to become a complete film solution provider with more and more films to offer along with various value-added services.
“Moreover there has been a dearth of organised CPP players in the market and with the expansion of our capacity; we shall be better suited to serve our customers. The new lines are also expected to help increase the overall margins and volumes to some extent.”
