Japanese brewing and distilling company Suntory has developed ‘FtoP Direct Recycle Technology’ for use in the production of soft drink Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle preform.
The company said that the FtoP technology will help reduce CO2 emissions by around 25% compared to the previous setup.
The technology was developed in collaboration with Japanese recycling firm Kyoei Industry, Italy-based bottle manufacturing and filling technologies provider SIPA, and Austria’s EREMA Group.
Within this framework, Kyoei Industry will be responsible for manufacturing preforms using this technology at its facility.
Suntory said that the FtoP technology will be gradually used to create parts of its PET bottle products this summer.
Suntory said in a statement: “(FtoP Direct Recycle Technology is) a technology in which ‘flake’ created by pulverising and washing recovered PET bottles is treated at high temperature and low pressure for a fixed period and that, after being melted and filtered, enables the preform to be manufactured directly.
