Henkel’s Adhesive Technologies business unit has unveiled its Pattex Made-at-Home glue bottle and cap made from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, in collaboration with Borealis’ mtm plastics.
The packaging solution, which replaces the previously used virgin resins, is composed of 100% plastic recyclate and is aimed at contributing to the circularity of plastics.
The concept of circular economy involves collecting materials after use and reintegrating them into new production processes.
Operating under brands such as Pattex, Loctite and Pritt, Henkel´s Adhesive Technologies business unit offers solutions in adhesives, sealants and functional coating.
Working with Henkel, Borealis developed the new bottle using its polyethylene regranulate product brand Purpolen PE, which is produced by mtm at its facilities in Niedergebra, Germany.
Borealis’ value chain partner KKT Kaller Kunststoff Technik manufactured the bottles, while the applicator nozzles were produced by plastic components manufacturer bomo trendline Technik.

By GlobalDataBefore the launch, the new Pattex Made-at-Home packaging solution was subjected to application tests, including a three-month storage test and other tests of mechanical properties.
Borealis Circular Economy Solutions head Günter Stephan said: “As a virgin polyolefins producer, Borealis is thrilled to be among the pioneers in using plastic recyclate in new applications.
“Even though momentum is gaining in the drive to increase the circularity of plastics, we still need to prove without a doubt within the industry that using recyclates – and even 100% PCR – is a suitable and effective option, even for demanding applications.
“Thanks to this successful value chain cooperation with our partners Henkel, KKT and bomo, we are giving plastics a second life and are thus one step closer to the goal of a more circular economy of plastics.”
In order to further bolster circularity, Henkel Adhesive Technologies intends to replace polyolefin resins with recycled materials for its packaging.
