Graphic Packaging International LLC, a subsidiary of Graphic Packaging Holding Company, has completed the acquisition of all assets of the foodservice business of Letica Corporation, a part of RPC Group, for $95m.
Letica’s foodservice business manufactures paperboard-based cups and cartons for foodservice customers across North America.

By GlobalDataGraphic Packaging has acquired two foodservice converting facilities in Clarksville, Tennessee, and Pittston, Pennsylvania, as part of the transaction.
The acquisition will also allow Graphic Packaging to help meet the increasing demand for paper cups, while strengthening its position in the US paperboard-based foodservice market.
Both the companies involved in the transaction are based in the US.
Sun Paper, a paper products company based in the US, has awarded a contract to German firm Voith for the supply of an additional two XcelLine packaging-grade lines, which are based on Papermaking 4.0 system.
The new paper machines are capable of operating at a speed of 1,200m/min and will be installed at Sun Paper’s new plant in Laos.
Voith will also deliver comprehensive services for the paper machines over their life cycle.
The contract will bring the total number of paper machines supplied by Voith to Sun Paper to nine.
US-based company New-Indy Containerboard has entered an agreement to buy Canadian firm Resolute Forest Products’ paper and pulp mill in Catawba, South Carolina, US, for $300m.
The purchase includes a kraft mill and a pulp dryer for producing market pulp, a lightweight coated paper machine, and a thermomechanical pulp mill.
The acquisition is expected to be completed by December.
New-Indy will provide employment for all 460 people currently working at the Catawba facility, upon completion of the transaction.
The proceeds from the transaction will be used by Resolute to reduce its net debt.
Sonoco, a company based in the US, has acquired the remaining 70% stake in Conitex Sonoco joint venture (JV), which was formed by Sonoco and Spanish paper-based packaging solutions provider Texpack Inc in 1998.
The $143m agreement, which was signed in May 2018, also includes the acquisition of a composite can plant in Spain.
Based in North Carolina, US, Conitex Sonoco JV is involved in the manufacture of paper-based cones and tubes for the textile industry. With a workforce of 1,250, the JV operates 13 manufacturing facilities worldwide.
Sonoco offers consumer packaging, protective packaging, industrial products, and packaging supply chain services.
The transaction will allow Sonoco to further expand its global paper-based tube and core business primarily in Asia.
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen has unveiled plans to take over the MBO Group, which provides solutions for customers in printing, labelling, packaging, pharmaceutical and marketing sectors.
The acquisition will allow Heidelberger to improve its postpress offerings for digitally printed products and increase customer base in the pharmaceutical industry. It will also add mailing system solutions to the acquirer’s offset portfolio.
Heidelberger will acquire MBO Group’s production facilities in Oppenweiler and Bielefeld, Germany, and Perifita, Portugal.
The transaction is expected to be closed by December.
Headquartered in Germany, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen manufactures offset printing presses and provides solutions for printing products.
