Smurfit Kappa has expanded its operations with the opening of a new folding carton plant in Tijuana, Mexico.
The folding carton facility is the company’s third plant in Mexico, which joins two others in Cerro Gordo and Naucalpan. It is expected to increase the company’s presence in Baja California and other Northern Mexico states.
Tijuana plant has already started operations and uses new technology to manufacture folding carton packaging solutions such as boxes and trays.
To serve customers in supply chain and retail domains, the company will also manufacture flat and pre-glued products leveraging various folding techniques.
Smurfit Kappa Northern Mexico packaging vice-president Eduardo Rubio said: “The inauguration of this important operation reflects the Smurfit Kappa Group‘s long-term commitment to Mexico and its confidence in the growth of the country’s economy and its markets.
“We are confident that this plant and the high-quality products we produce will contribute to the growth of our customers’ business in this region.”
