Kroger supermarket division Quality Food Centers (QFC) has committed to removing single-use plastic bags across its stores from 1 April.
The latest move complements Kroger’s plan to eliminate single-use plastic bags and replace with reusable bags across its family of stores by 2025 as part of its Zero Hunger | Zero Waste initiative.
It also marks QFC as the first brand of Kroger to make the complete transition.
QFC will feature reusable bag displays across its stores and offer customers the ability to recycle plastic bags.
During April, QFC will donate $1 for each reusable bag sold across its stores to The Nature Conservancy.
QFC president Suzy Monford said: “With Earth Day approaching, we realised this was the perfect opportunity to accelerate the removal of single-use plastic in our stores and take the next bold step in our Zero Hunger | Zero Waste journey.

By GlobalData“We listen closely to our customers and our communities, and we agree with their growing concerns about use-once, throw-it-away plastic bags. This is why we are leading the change and inviting our customers to join us as we help to create zero-waste neighbourhoods.”
In August, Korger announced that QFC will be the first retail division to phase out single-use plastic bags.
Other initiatives under the Zero Hunger | Zero Waste programme include diverting 90% of waste from landfill by 2020.
