Clariant’s Healthcare Packaging unit has added a desiccant packets production line to its Cuddalore facility in Tamil Nadu, India.
The expansion will allow the Switzerland-based speciality chemicals group to produce both Continu-Strip continuous-roll desiccant packets and individually cut desiccant packets of various sizes at the plant.

It will also increase the global capacity of the company, which will be able to immediately offer desiccant products to customers in the region.
The Swiss firm will produce both packet types based on its pharmaceutical customers’ requirements, using various desiccant combinations such as Sorb-It silica gel, Tri-Sorb molecular sieve, Getter Pak activated carbon or two-in-one Pak in different sizes.
Clariant India healthcare sales head Gautam Arora noted that the company made an investment to add additional capacity to the Cuddalore facility, meeting the demand for canister desiccants.
He said: “By adding the capability to produce two new lines of desiccant packets in India, Clariant Healthcare Packaging becomes a more comprehensive pharmaceutical desiccant supplier for pharmaceutical manufacturers in India and throughout the region.”

By GlobalDataIn addition, the company will continue producing rigid desiccant canisters at its Cuddalore facility. The canisters are inserted into pharmaceutical containers, protecting the contents from moisture damage.
The expanded capacity will also allow Clariant to offer various protective packaging solutions, including desiccants, tubes, desiccant stoppers and other options for its Indian customers.
As well as the Cuddalore facility, Clariant Healthcare Packaging also operates production plants in Changshu and Dongguan, China; Romorantin, France; and Belen, New Mexico, US.
