The Packaging Innovations and Luxury Packaging 2019 events kicked off on Wednesday at London Olympia, featuring three session stages: The Main Stage, Pentawards Conference and Packaging News stage, with sustainability, luxury and design at the core.
On the Main Stage, attendees heard talks from The Beauty Forum, including TerraCycle business Development VP Caroline Frery and REN Clean Skincare CEO Arnaud Meysselle discussing how TerraCycle is working towards eliminating waste.
The Big Plastics Debate kicked off with a discussion hosted by On-Pack Recycling Label chair Jane Bevis and Zero Waste Scotland chief operating officer Jill Farrell on Scotland’s Deposit Return Scheme and what the rest of the UK can learn from it.
The debate moved on to cover environmentally friendly packaging and compostables, with panellists from Carlsberg, Lush Cosmetics, Foodservice Packaging Association, Green Alliance, British Plastics Federation, First Mile and University College London.
A Plastic Planet launched PlasticFreeLand with a panel, chaired by co-founder Siân Sutherland, showcasing the best plastic-free alternatives on the market.
Sutherland said: “As the creators of the Plastic Free Aisle last year, we wanted to design an entire space that champions some of the pioneering materials manufacturers in the industry. Stepping into PlasticFreeLand will feel like the future – but a future that is actually possible today. All materials shown are viable and scalable. It is great to work with Easyfairs again to accelerate the essential pace of plastic-free change.”
