Food and drink company Princes Group has revealed its plans to make all of its tuna multipacks sustainable.
The decision to switch to Forest Stewardship Council-certified cardboard sleeve packaging is part of the company’s sustainability efforts.
The company has planned to make the new packaging available in the next 18-24 months, while the first products are expected to be available within the coming weeks.
If successfully implemented, the move will see the elimination of 96 tonnes of plastic from its tuna products per year.
Princes Group commercial director Mat Lowery was quoted by media sources as saying: “Packaging innovation has become a cornerstone of how we bring our company vision to life – proudly helping families to eat well without costing the earth.
“We have always championed the 100% recyclability of the can of course, but this latest initiative will make it even easier for our consumers to recycle more and feel better about what they buy.
