Sustainable packaging solution provider Cascades has introduced a new thermoformed cardboard tray designed for fresh food packers.
Featuring 100% recycled fibres, the new food tray is easily recyclable. It is intended for fresh food packers that use automated equipment in North America.

By GlobalDataDeveloped using a circular economy approach and eco-design principles, the fibres were sourced mainly from post-consumer sources that carried “Recycled” under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standard.
Furthermore, the SurfSHIELD water-based coating protects the tray from moisture while preserving the recyclability of the cardboard.
Cascades Fresh packaging is primarily designed for food producers and processors, especially for meat, poultry, fish, fresh fruit and vegetables.
The packaging meets Health Canada and US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for direct food contact.

The thermoforming capable container complements Cascades innovative range of cardboard trays launched in 2019.
Cascades tested its rigidity to ensure compatibility with automatic unstacking, in addition to working on high-speed systems.
In June this year, Cascades launched its new range of Cascades Fresh packaging products for the fruit and vegetable industry to be used by producers, packers and retailers.
In July, the company revealed plans to shut its Etobicoke, Ontario Containerboard packaging facility.
