US-based protective packaging maker Pregis has announced plans to build an advanced blown film extrusion facility in Anderson, South Carolina.
The company will invest $80m to build the 168,000ft² facility, which will feature newly installed lines to manufacture the latest engineered films.

Films from these lines will be used for manufacturing performance-oriented, packaging solutions for the food, consumer-packaged goods and medical markets.
The plant will be run by industry veterans and will feature an advanced film laboratory to facilitate the development and testing of materials.
Scheduled to begin operations in September, the facility is expected to generate 120 jobs for people in Anderson.
Pregis president and CEO Kevin Baudhuin said: “We believe that this new facility will be the most technologically advanced extrusion facility in North America.

In line with Pregis’ environmental targets for 2030, the facility will use energy efficiency solutions for manufacturing and other functions.
The company aims to run its business as sustainably as possible, improving its carbon footprint and reducing its environmental impact while making “significant, positive contributions” to people and society.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said: “We congratulate Pregis on this $80m investment, which will create 120 jobs within the Anderson County community.
“We wish them great success in the Palmetto State and look forward to seeing them grow and prosper for a long time.”
In April, Pregis opened two facilities in Texas in an effort to meet increasing demand in North America’s southern region.
The first facility, located in Garland, produces protective packaging materials and acts as a distribution centre. It will also feature an onsite customer demo and training centre.
The second facility, located in Arlington, is due to begin operations later this year and will produce Pregis’ recently rebranded Pregis EverTec mailer.
