British supermarket chain Tesco has partnered with global reusable packaging platform Loop to launch a wide range of refillable products.
Around 88 food, drink, household and beauty products will be made available for purchase in reusable and durable packaging at ten large Tesco stores in the east of England.
The products are from Carex, Coca-Cola, Dr Will’s, Ecover, Fever-Tree, Finish, Good4U, Hardys, Mackays, Heinz, Meridian, Mud House and Naked Noodle among other brands.
Tesco has also included 35 own-brand essentials in the range, such as pasta, rice, oil and sugar. The retailer plans to add more products to this selection throughout the year.
Customers can return their empty reusable packaging to stores after use and have it cleaned and refilled.
Tesco Group CEO Ken Murphy said: “We are determined to tackle plastic waste and one of the ways we can help is by improving reuse options available to customers. Bringing Loop to our stores is a significant milestone in this journey.

By GlobalData“With 88 everyday products available, we’re giving customers a wide range of options and we’ll learn as much as we can from this to inform our future packaging plans.”
Tesco launched Loop in stores after successfully completing a year-long online pilot, which began last July.
Products in the Loop range come prefilled in containers and customers can visit the Loop fixture in the store to opt for reusable packaging.
Loop and TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky said: “The consumer reaction to Loop in these first Tesco stores will prove pivotal in refining the Loop offering.
“Ultimately, we hope to scale reuse across more stores and the number of product lines available.”
Last month, Tesco finished installing soft plastic collection points at all its large stores in the UK as part of its efforts to tackle plastic waste.
