The global packaging industry noticed a 2.9% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2021 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 11.99% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity increased 3.08% when compared with August 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in September 2021, down 0.25% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2021 were 3.69% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 7.16% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 51.83% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in September 2021, a 9.61% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 17.36% in September 2021, down 7.08% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.72% share in September 2021, a decline of 16.92% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.15% share in September 2021 and a drop of 23.24% over August 2021.
Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in September 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 8.64% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during September 2021 over August 2021.
Ball posted 272 IT jobs in September 2021 and registered a rise of 10.12% over the previous month, followed by Reckitt Benckiser Group with 98 jobs and a 28.47% decline. Carrier Global with 92 IT jobs and Fujitsu General with 76 jobs, recorded an 119.05% growth and a 16.92% rise, respectively, while The Procter & Gamble recorded a flat growth with 53 job postings during September 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in September 2021 with a 55.18% share, which marked a 9.41% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 29.22%, registering a 10.41% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 12.03% share and an 18.75% drop over August 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.38% and a month-on-month drop of 1.82%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.1%, registering a flat growth over the previous month.
