Austria-based packaging and recycling company ALPLA has merged its North-East Asia and South-East Asia operations into one business region.
The region will encompass the company’s present operations in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and China.
It will be run from ALPLA’s Asia-Pacific (APAC) head office in Singapore, which is due to open on 1 January.
ALPLA CEO Philipp Lehner said: “We are convinced that establishing this new regional organisation is the right step to support our ambitions in the region.
“It will especially enable us to develop market-leading products and services for our growing customer base in Asia.”
The current ALPLA North-East Asia managing director Roland Wallner will manage the APAC region.

By GlobalDataThe region will have 2,750 employees and cater to the packaging requirements of companies in the Asian market.
Besides widening the reach of its moulding technology, ALPLA plans to focus on developing circular economy activities in the APAC region.
Wallner said: “With this step, we are bundling our extensive competencies and resources in different markets of the region and aligning them in terms of strategic development, customer service, sales and purchasing.”
Earlier this month, ALPLA opened a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic recycling facility in Toluca, Mexico.
The facility has an annual manufacturing capacity of up to 15,000t of recycled HDPE in pellet form.
It will process plastic to be used in packaging for non-food products, including personal care products and household cleaning agents.
In February, the ALPLA Group announced plans to invest up to €50m ($56.2m) a year until 2025 to expand its recycling activities.
The company particularly plans to globalise its high-quality recyclate activities to ‘close the materials cycle’ as widely as possible.
The funding is part of ALPLA’s commitments as a signatory of the Global Commitment of the New Plastics Economy, an initiative led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
