Germany-based styrenics supplier INEOS Styrolution has introduced K-Resin DK11, a material designed for controlled atmosphere packaging (CAP) film applications.
Claimed to be suitable for use by banana farmers in China, the packaging solution is expected to preserve the freshness, colour and integrity of the fruit.
It is intended to address farmers’ pursuit of controlled banana ripening without the use of preservatives or ripeners during transportation from Yunnan to other coastal regions in China.
K-Resin DK11 is designed to offer clarity, thermal stability and high gas permeability, making it suitable for CAP film applications for fruits and vegetables.
INEOS Styrolution Asia-Pacific transparent specialities director Jary Liao said: “We are extremely pleased with the performance of the CAP film produced using our K-Resin DK11.
“The excellent gas permeability of this film allows for the organic ripening of the bananas while preserving the shelf life of the fruit, especially during long cross-city state journeys.

A crystal-clear thermoplastic styrene-butadiene copolymer (SBC), K-Resin combines gloss, stiffness, impact toughness and clarity.
The solution can be used for applications requiring food contact compliance.
INEOS Styrolution said that its K-Resin thermoplastic SBC has been used for packaging, toys, medical components, displays and other applications for more than 40 years.
The company’s other crystal-clear thermoplastic SBCs include Styrolux and Styroflex.
In 2020, INEOS Styrolution partnered with US-based polystyrene producer AmSty to build a polystyrene recycling facility in Channahon, Illinois.
The facility recycles post-use polystyrene products into virgin-equivalent styrene monomers using Agilyx’s advanced recycling technology.
