US-based packaging firm Berry Global has developed recycled plastic bottles for skincare brand Koa’s Body Cleanser and Body Moisturizer products.
The move comes after Koa decided to use post-consumer recycled (PCR) material for its new body care line as part of its commitment to sustainability.
The polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles are made entirely using PCR and feature silk-screen decoration, which removes the need to recycle label materials separately.
Berry is producing the recycled bottles at its manufacturing facility in Winchester, Virginia.
Koa brand co-founder Hiro Shinn said: “We were determined to use 100% post-consumer material for our new body care line.
“Taking recycled odds and ends and turning them into functional, beautiful packaging felt like the natural next step in our journey to become a more responsible brand.

By GlobalData“There are very few manufacturing partners out there that share our vision for how to engineer sustainable packaging while maintaining structural integrity and good design. Berry is at the top of that list.”
Shinn co-founded Koa with Ty McLaren with the aim to ‘share the rich healing traditions of Hawaii with the world’.
Berry Global bottle manufacturing site commercial business director David Long said: “We understand the need, as a plastics manufacturer, to be as responsible as we can when producing packaging.
“Anytime we can produce bottles using fully recycled plastic, we know we have found a true partner in our commitment to sustainability.”
Last month, Berry Global reported a 14% year-on-year increase in net sales in the first quarter (Q1) of the fiscal year 2022 (FY22).
The company increased its full-year guidance for the year despite registering a 7.4% decline in Q1 net income.
Berry also recently acquired certified circular polymers from ExxonMobil to produce containers for food-grade packaging.
The circular polymers are developed using ExxonMobil’s Exxtend recycling technology.
