US-based materials company Origin Materials has partnered with cosmetics brand Revlon to develop advanced carbon-negative materials for cosmetics packaging.
The companies will make use of Origin’s patented technology platform to expedite the development and commercialisation of new sustainable materials for the packaging.
Revlon has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to reserve commercial volumes of Origin PET, Origin’s patented brand of polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
The brand will use the developed materials to strengthen its sustainability efforts, including its goal to drive responsible and ethical sourcing practices to tackle the challenges of a complex global supply chain.
Revlon chief scientific officer Keyla Lazardi said: “Revlon’s initiative with Origin Materials will allow consumers at all price points to access sustainable, plant-based packaging.
“As a company that is focused on driving sustainability in the beauty industry, Revlon is thrilled to advance the use of Origin’s carbon-negative bio-PET in the mass beauty space.”
Based in West Sacramento, California, Origin Materials has developed a platform for converting carbon found in non-food biomass into useful materials.
