The global packaging industry noticed a 2.2% drop in IT hiring activity in September 2022 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 4.67% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.85% when compared with August 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.27% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in September 2022, down 0.21% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of September 2022 were 12.23% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 21.89% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 34.38% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in September 2022, a 15.31% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 22.38% in September 2022, up 9.3% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 21.41% share in September 2022, a decline of 5.4% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.44% share in September 2022 and a rise of 6.91% over August 2022.
Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in September 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 12.05% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during September 2022 over August 2022.
Ball posted 130 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Amcor with 119 jobs and a 50.63% growth. The J. R. Simplot with 108 IT jobs and Nestle with 88 jobs, recorded a 31.71% growth and a 13.73% drop, respectively, while Haier Group recorded a 6.25% rise with 85 job postings during September 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in September 2022 with a 53.2% share, which marked a 5.71% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 25.68%, registering a 0.7% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 17.78% share and a 28.57% drop over August 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.23% and a month-on-month drop of 26.19%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.11%, registering a 40.91% increase over the previous month.
