North American manufacturer Pretium Packaging has developed a new stock polyethylene terephthalate (PET) container with an integrated handle.
Named SureHandle, the newly introduced 64oz, 38mm-400mm finish PET containers have been developed using the preform technology from Practically Impossible Labs, Houston, Texas, US.
The containers are expected to provide handling convenience and significant shelf differentiation to brand owners.
Pretium president and CEO Paul Kayser said: “There have been a variety of attempts over the years to develop handled PET containers, but most have fallen short of the mark.
“This new technology creates all sorts of possibilities for products – including beverages, foods and household and industrial chemicals – that could benefit from a monolayer container with an ergonomic handleware solution.”
Besides easy handling, the SureHandle containers also provide improved pouring control.

By GlobalDataFurthermore, the container has improved top-load capabilities enabling the use of a shrink-wrapped tray pack that can ensure stacking of five layers to a pallet.
Pretium noted that the tray pack usage decreases secondary packaging costs and also enables easier unloading and display at the retail level.
The company used preform technology and its injection and blow-moulding manufacturing expertise to develop the container. The preform includes an injection-moulded handle attached to the side wall.
Pretium has decided to produce the preforms and bottles at its Walterboro facility located in South Carolina facility using Husky Injection Molding Systems and Sidel stretch blow moulding equipment.
It has also partnered with multiple vendors / suppliers who can deliver additional features, such as UV inhibitors and oxygen scavengers, to the product.
As SureHandle is only made of PET, the bottle does not contaminate the PET recycling stream and facilitates recycling.
The container can be used to store juices, ready-to-drink teas, sport drinks, nutritional supplements, edible oils and other requirements in household and industrial chemicals category.
