The global packaging industry noticed a 12.7% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 over the previous month, led by PepsiCo’s 5.95% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity declined 9.38% when compared with September 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 3.14% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in October 2022, down 0.24% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of October 2022 were 9.1% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 18.65% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 33.65% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in October 2022, a 21.51% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 23.65% in October 2022, down 10.44% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 19.99% share in October 2022, a decline of 27.61% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.91% share in October 2022 and a drop of 16.63% over September 2022.
Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in October 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 20.55% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during October 2022 over September 2022.
PepsiCo posted 138 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a rise of 228.57% over the previous month, followed by Ball with 127 jobs and a 2.31% decline. Amcor with 80 IT jobs and J. R. Simplot with 74 jobs, recorded a 32.77% decline and a 31.48% drop, respectively, while McCain Foods recorded a flat growth with 62 job postings during October 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in October 2022 with a 54.11% share, which marked a 16.99% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 24.43%, registering a 23.69% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 17.41% share and a 23.05% drop over September 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 2.97% and a month-on-month rise of 9.52%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.08%, registering a 19.35% decrease over the previous month.
