Packaging Automation’s (PA) new semi-automatic tray sealing machine ‘eclipseR’ has been selected by Biocomposites to enhance sterile packing procedures for its medical products.
Biocomposites manufactures devices that are used to regenerate and repair bone and soft tissue, and require a 100% consistent seal band to keep the products sterile.
PA undertook comprehensive sealing trials at its testing facility to demonstrate the required standards for Biocomposites’ devices.
The tests ensured that Biocomposites can supply its products with reliably sealed packs that prevent contamination up to the point of use and comply with packaging requirements.
Biocomposites production director Chis McGuiness said: “The eclipseR was chosen due to a combination of product requirements, environmental constraints and advice from PA technical experts.”
The machine does not require air to operate and is capable of sealing up to 40 packs per minute.

By GlobalDataAfter the introduction of this machine in operations, Biocomposites reported having witnessed a moderate increase in production output.
McGuiness added: “Choosing the most suitable supplier for key equipment can become difficult when you find yourself having to filter out important information from unfamiliar phrasing used in a pressured sales pitch but our purchasing experience with Packaging Automation came with no such burden.
“The sales and technical teams were open and honest from the off and avoided using any form of pressure selling techniques but rather invested time and resource into exploring all available options to arrive at a conclusion which best suits our company’s needs.”
