The global packaging industry noticed a 13.7% drop in IT hiring activity in November 2022 over the previous month, led by Ball’s 6.5% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The packaging industry’s overall hiring activity declined 8.11% when compared with October 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 2.94% share of the global packaging industry’s hiring activity in November 2022, down 0.33% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of November 2022 were 17.99% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 38.45% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 33.6% emerged as the top IT occupation in the packaging hiring activity in November 2022, a 36.72% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 24.71% in November 2022, down 30.16% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 19.31% share in November 2022, a decline of 35.45% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 14.53% share in November 2022 and a drop of 36.8% over October 2022.
Top five packaging companies by recruitment activity in November 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 4.53% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global packaging industry during November 2022 over October 2022.
Ball posted 106 IT jobs in November 2022 and registered a drop of 16.54% over the previous month, followed by Nestle with 90 jobs and a 328.57% growth. PepsiCo with 89 IT jobs and J. R. Simplot with 67 jobs, recorded a 35.51% decline and a 9.46% drop, respectively, while Carrier Global recorded an 18.64% drop with 48 job postings during November 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in packaging industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global packaging IT hiring activity in November 2022 with a 52.42% share, which marked a 34.83% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 27.16%, registering a 27.85% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 15.27% share and a 48.34% drop over October 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.68% and a month-on-month drop of 16.67%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.47%, registering an 11.11% decrease over the previous month.
