The US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has allowed the use of Envision Plastics’ EcoPrime resin in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packaging for fatty foods and spirits.
The FDA has issued a letter of no objection stating that EcoPrime can be used at levels up to 100% in HDPE packaging under the agency’s Conditions of Use A through H.
The favourable review makes the product the only post-consumer recycled HDPE resin allowed for use in packaging all food types up to retort temperature conditions.
Envision Plastics sales and procurement vice-president Tamsin Ettefagh said: “I am thrilled at the opportunities the FDA’s letter of no objection provides, extending the use of this innovative product into new markets.
“Made from US sourced recycled food packaging, integrating EcoPrime not only provides your end consumers the products they love, but within packaging they can feel good about.”
The recyclable EcoPrime resin has been specially developed for direct food contact at levels up to 100%.
