UK-based Linpac and its print partner Parkside Flexibles have created new designs for its Rfresh Evolve rigid vacuum skin packaging (VSP) trays.

Created to improve their appeal to consumers, the new designs are available in grass, kraft paper and wood or slate looks printed by Parkside.

The natural prints were laminated into polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) tray during a thermoforming process.

The trays can be sealed with vacuum films, eliminating the requirement to lock the pack into a material or machinery manufacturer.

Linpac group marketing manager Nikki Clark said: “As well as being eye-catching the trays offer retailers flexibility in differentiating and tiering fresh meat ranges.

“Evolve trays can be displayed horizontally, vertically, shingled or hung and are available in three application styles – normal, protruding and super-protruding – to present meat products in the most attractive way possible.

"As well as being eye-catching the trays offer retailers flexibility in differentiating and tiering fresh meat ranges."

“Partnering with Parkside on this project has allowed us to innovate one of our core products in order to improve its relevance to future market trends.”

The company also noted that rigid VSP extends the shelf life of a product and helps to reduce food waste, increasing supply chain efficiency and sales.

Last month, Linpac created a new modified atmosphere pack (MAP) for Young’s Seafood’s new range of beer-battered cod fillets.

The new MAP, which can be used to pack two fillets, features a specially designed newspaper print on its film lid and tray.
