Global flexible packaging company ProAmpac has received the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) BioPreferred certification for its ProActive Compostable product, named CPM-2000.
The certification further signifies that the CPM-2000 range is contributing to closing the circular economy loop.
As per the USDA’s website, its BioPreferred certification programme has been designed to encourage the purchase and use of biobased products.
Through this, the certification body intends to ensure that consumers can identify biobased products from a pool of sustainable purchasing options.
Products and packages with the ‘Biobased Product’ labels display all the necessary information to consumers about the product’s biobased content.
The label also signifies that the products have completed various third-party testing processes at independent laboratories before receiving the certification.

By GlobalDataProAmpac’s food and beverage market manager Charles Golub said: “The circularity of ProActive Compostable CPM-2000 is crucial, being both compostable and biosourced, supporting every stage of the circular economy.
“It offers brands an excellent opportunity to communicate the genuine circularity of our packaging to consumers. By selecting ProAmpac, brands can initiate fact-based conversations with their customers about commercially available packaging products that contribute to a more environmentally conscious future.”
Apart from the newly acquired BioPreferred certification, the CPM-2000 product range has also secured the Biodegradable Products Institute’s (BPI) industrial compostable certification.
This BPI’s recognition, according to the company, highlights CPM-2000’s ‘groundbreaking’ achievement in terms of its sustainability.
ProAmpac sustainable paper packaging innovation manager Ray Recchia said: “Currently, being commercially run on high-speed packing lines, CPM-2000 offers very high oxygen and moisture barrier for product protection and has excellent seal characteristics.
“With its BPI and BioPreferred certifications, CPM-2000 sets a new standard for eco-conscious packaging solutions, demonstrating ProAmpac’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.”
The company also said that its ProActive Compostable range includes high-performance products that are compostable at home and in industrial settings.
