North-America-based speciality paper manufacturer Pixelle Specialty Solutions has rolled out a new brand portfolio of barrier paper solutions, called ARMOR.
The brand has been launched as a more sustainable alternative to single-use plastic packaging.
The range offers barrier protection from mineral oil, oxygen, and various aromas for chocolate packaging.
It also provides oil and grease resistance and a moisture vapour barrier.
The company said that such barrier packaging solutions can also be used individually or in multiple layers to offer a more enhanced packaging performance.
Pixelle Sales and Marketing senior vice-president Bob van Helden said: “The ARMOR portfolio is supported by a team of engineers across multiple mill locations who can tailor a solution to meet specific performance requirements.

By GlobalData“For those with a more standard packaging application, Pixelle offers pre-engineered, off-the-shelf solutions that are available today.”
The ARMOR portfolio features two per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)-free and plastic-free product lines – FlexArmor and SelectArmor.
FlexArmor has been designed for uncoated applications while the SelectArmor line has a coated surface to provide enhanced printability.
The two product lines have also received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration for use in direct and indirect food contact applications.
The basis weight of FlexArmor and SelectArmor range between 20lb and 150lb. Both products offer functional one-side and functional two-side performance alternatives.
Pixelle said wet strength is also available alongside bleached and unbleached options.
Pixelle Engineered Specialties vice-president Michelle LeMere said: “Plastic packaging that can last for centuries is inherently flawed when designed for single-use applications.
“As companies around the world implement new policies to remove PFAS and replace single-use plastics with more sustainable alternatives, they can leverage Pixelle’s portfolio of barrier chemistries to help achieve their goals.”
