Plastic packaging manufacturer Berry Global has created a new 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET)-made plastic bottle for European luxury water brand NEUE Water.

Designed to package NEUE’s artesian mineral water, the bottle is durable and can be refilled and used multiple times.

The fully recyclable bottle has a flat shape, ergonomic design and can easily fit inside pockets and handbags.

Berry said this compact design makes it suitable for today’s on-the-go lifestyle.

NEUE founder Michael Lowers said: “In launching NEUE Water, we are improving the carbon impact of historical packaging materials for mineral waters.

“Our water allows consumers to hydrate consciously on the go, with a bottle that uses no new plastic, reduces carbon emissions and is recyclable. In this way, we are championing the move to a more circular economy.

“Bringing the bottle design concept to life was not easy, but the team at Berry rose to the challenge and have been hugely supportive throughout the project.”

The flat bottle shape comes with an ‘uninterrupted convex window’ on one side of the pack, which shows a magnified label area to make it ‘eye-catching’ on supermarket shelves.

NEUE’s inaugural water pack collection features six limited-edition labels designed by Berlin-based artist Studio Raaad.

According to Berry, plastic has a lower carbon footprint than its alternatives, as plastic is lighter in weight and requires less energy and water during the production process.

Berry Agile Solutions’s product line director Joe Horton said: “Sustainability is a top priority for our company and core to why and how we collaborate with our customers to develop solutions that advance a circular, net-zero economy.

“The NEUE water bottle is the perfect example of how we can achieve ‘More Together,’ delivering a durable, efficient, appealing option that helps keep resources in use and out of our environment.”
