German pharmapack producer Schreiner MediPharm has developed Flexi-Cap Protect, which is a upgraded version of Flexi-Cap, its first-opening indication security concept for oncological applications.
While the existing Flexi-Cap comprises an upper cap covering the closure of the medicine content, a new cap has been added to it, which enables protection to the bottom of the bottles or vials from glass breakage and surface contamination.
Both the caps are attached to the container with a label that can optionally feature an integrated foam layer for enhanced protection against lateral impact.
The dual cap and label solution can be used as a pharmapack for oncological medicines which are developed to combat cancer cells in patients.
Flexi-Cap Protect does not use heat while it is applied on the medicine containers, ensuring that the medicinal properties remain undamaged.
Schreiner MediPharm president Ann L Merchant said: "The different functions of the newly developed special solution Flexi-Cap Protect ensure the protection of users against the severe consequences of possible contamination and simultaneously guarantee the integrity of primary packaging."

By GlobalDataThe cap on top of the solution allows space for warning notices, codes for track and trace systems or for integration of NFC inlays for interactive applications.
The existing pack was upgraded in order to protect the primary packaging from external forces and contamination.
Schreiner MediPharm said: "In spite of sophisticated filling and packaging processes in the production of pharmaceuticals, contamination of primary packaging cannot be completely avoided.
"Moreover, glass breakage of primary containers with cytostatics can have serious consequences."
The new solution will be showcased by the company as a product highlight at Pharmapack Europe in Paris from 10 to 11 February.
