RPC’s Bebo Kristiansand Food Packaging Systems unit has unveiled a new seafood packing system that can offer logistical and sustainability benefits compared with conventionally used packs.
The system offers lightweight trays, sealing film and tray-lidding machines, which can prolong shelf life of the seafood products, even without ice, when combined with modified atmosphere packing (MAP) technique.
It can be used for packing multiple seafood products ranging from fish fillets to shellfish.
RPC Bebo Kristiansand sales and marketing director Espen Eggerdink said: "We believe this new system offers seafood processors an ideal solution in terms of delivering quality, freshness and convenience to their end customers."
In addition to a new packing system, thermoformed HDPE trays in varying sizes were also introduced as part of the launch.
The trays feature pyramids, which aim to prevent discolouration of the stored fish from residual water and liquid when used with plastic layer pads.

In addition to seafood products, the filled trays can also be used for dry goods.
Being leakproof, the trays can prevent saltwater from seeping out.
A RPC group subsidiary, RPC Bebo Kristiansand Food Packaging Systems offers the products in dual colours, with a red exterior and a black interior, which can be packed directly onto pallets using film-wrap.
