France lifts ban on international trade of food contact materials with BPA content
France’s highest constitutional authority, Constitutional Council, repealed parts of the law imposed in December 2012 banning use of bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact material.
Restrictions on manufacturing and export of food contact material with the chemical compound have been removed under the new ruling.
The ban on import and marketing of the products within the country is, however, still to be maintained.
Coca-Cola to optimise production by integrating bottlers in US
Coca-Cola formed a new National Product Supply System (NPSS) in an effort to streamline its production in the US.
The firm intends to bring together Coca-Cola Refreshments (CCR) and its independent producing bottlers, Coca-Cola Bottling Co Consolidated, Coca-Cola Bottling Company United and Swire Coca-Cola USA (Swire) under the NPSS.
The three bottlers, along with CCR and Coca-Cola North America, will form the National Product Supply Group (NPSG).
Crown to increase beverage can production at Osmaniye plant in Turkey
US-based metal can manufacturer Crown Holdings announced plans to set-up a new production line at its Osmaniye plant in central-southern Turkey in an effort to increase its capacity for beverage can production.
The new line is expected to meet the rising demands for cans in Turkey and its neighbours, the existing market for the operational facility.
More than 2.6 billion units of cans were sold last year in Turkey alone, the firm said.
Mitsubishi plans expansion for polyester film production facility in Greer, US
Mitsubishi Polyester Film, a US-based subsidiary of Mitsubishi Plastics, revealed a planned a $100m expansion of its production facility in Greer, South Carolina.
The expansion plan will set up a new polyester film production line at the facility, which is located at 2001 Hood Road in Greer.
This new line is expected to be equipped with a high level of technology to boost production-efficiency of the facility, which is claimed to be the largest polyester film plant in the US.
Avery Dennison aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3%
US-based packaging materials provider Avery Dennison announced plans to reduce its absolute greenhouse gas emissions by at least 3% every year between now and 2025.
The latest goal was announced in Avery Dennison’s new sustainability report which stated that the company cut its emissions indexed to net sales by 15% based on a 2005 baseline between 2010 and 2015.
The company identified various methods to use energy efficiently in order to achieve the reduction.
PPG Industries resumes operations at Fresno manufacturing facility
US-based glass manufacturer PPG Industries resumed normal operations at its facility in Fresno, California, removing restictions for its customers in western US and western Canada.
Mechanical production issues at the flat glass manufacturing facility prompted the firm to impose force majeure on its architectural, residential and speciality glass products for its customers on 10 September.
Force majeure allows supply contractors to deviate from its obligations during unprecedented circumstances.
