The product, which can thus be used in multiple cycles through the supply chain, can ensure a higher return on investment (RoI).

It is the first fully functioning drop-in replacement for a fibre-corrugated box, which is recycled using 284 billion gallons of water annually, Orbis claimed.

"With PlastiCorr, companies are now able to implement reusable packaging solutions that meet the automation requirements of packaging applications."

Orbis Corporation business development director Bill McMahon said: "Today, companies are continuously balancing the need to reduce costs and minimise their impact on the environment, while protecting product integrity and improving operational efficiency.

"Historically, fibre-corrugated boxes have been the backbone of most automated packaging lines and shipping scenarios within supply chains, but as supply chains have evolved, so too has the need for a comprehensive reusable solution that can holistically address the many needs of modern supply chains.

"With PlastiCorr, companies are now able to implement reusable packaging solutions that meet the automation requirements of packaging applications with a drop-in replacement while offering significant financial, operational and environmental benefits."

Users of the product can cut down 74% in cumulative energy, 89% in water consumption and 61% of solid waste, the company says.

The reusable box, which features sealed plastic edges and is made of water and moisture-resistant material, can eliminate operational issues, including dust or exposure to moisture.
