New Zealand-based Alliance Group has installed a new thermoform-controlled atmosphere packaging machine from Ulma at its Lorneville plant in Southland.
Claimed to be purpose-built in Spain, the machine will enable the company to expedite the process of packaging and exporting its products to customers spread over across Europe, North America and Asia.
Alliance marketing development services manager Gary Maclennan told the Stuff.co.nz that the machine prolongs the shelf life of the company’s products up to four weeks.
Maclennan said: "Product packaged this way can be loaded for transport the day after processing, allowing us to get to the market faster and offer a much longer shelf life."
Claimed to reduce the time between processing and shipping, the technology also removes oxygen from the pouch and creates a modified atmosphere.
This will happen by replacing oxygen with a combination of nitrogen and carbon dioxide.

By GlobalDataThe machine, which includes the fully automated LeakMatic assurance system, also measures the atmosphere within each individual pack.
It is also capable of tracing packs that do not meet the pre-set requirements and rejects them.
According to Alliance Group, the machine includes systems that have the capacity to enhance consistency and compliance with product specifications.
The technology helped the company increase its controlled atmosphere packing capacity by 340% and also minimised the total amount of packaging required for each kilo of lamb.
