Austrian packaging company Coveris has announced the launch of new sustainable stretch films, referred to as Unterland R and Unterland Crystal, for silage bale wrapping.
The new stretch films will be presented during the upcoming trade show for agricultural machinery, Agritechnica 2023, which is scheduled to be held between 12 and 18 November in Hannover, Germany.
Both films are designed to offer enhanced sustainability benefits and are manufactured using ‘only’ renewable resources at Coveris’ Kufstein site in Austria.
Coveris’ Unterland R solution is a multilayered stretch film made using at least 30% recyclate obtained mainly from agricultural films that were collected under the ERDE initiative.
The ERDE initiative is a take-back and recycling system for harvested plastics in Germany.
The use of this recycled content could help save up to 20 litres of crude oil per film roll, Coveris added.

The company said it has designed the new stretch films to address the increasing demand for environmentally friendly baling solutions by its customers in the agricultural market.
Meanwhile, Coveris’ Unterland Crystal is a transparent recyclable silage film that offers the same quality standard as that of coloured films.
Usage of this film will allow customers to achieve considerable savings in the recycling process.
Coveris Agricultural Films sales director Martin Wildinger said: “At Coveris we built our entire sustainability strategy around the vision of No Waste as we believe that fighting waste in all its forms is the driving force of a more sustainable future.
“Our Unterland stretch films fit into this strategy well and offer the agricultural market what it has been looking for years – a sustainable yet highly effective and protective film for silage bale wrapping.”
Coveris also announced that it is launching a new recyclable, flexible thermoforming film solution, Formpeel P, for medical packaging applications.
