Bosch Packaging Technology has expanded its Carton Printing System (CPS) portfolio for the serialisation of pharmaceutical products packaging.
The move comes prior to several countries’ planned legislation changes for stricter pharmaceutical goods labelling.
The CPS is capable of printing 1D or 2D data matrix codes on up to 400 folding cartons per minute.
The CPS technologies automatically sort products that do not match the required levels of quality for contrast and readability of the data matrix codes.
With an ability to connect to both machine software and company IT in a multi-level process, CPS ensures that serial numbers are attributed reliably.
Bosch Packaging has adapted automation technology from Bosch’s automotive sector to the specific requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.

By GlobalDataThis enables the company to offer customers IT solutions that not only process the entire order management, but also control both import and export of serial numbers.
Bosch Packaging Technology product manager Daniel Sanwald said: "With our serialisation concept, we offer customers more than just a machine.
"Bosch offers the complete package, which also includes the corresponding IT."
Due to its modular design, the CPS can be extended with further modules such as the Tamper Evident module, weighing module and labeller.
The weighing module inspects the weight of each folding carton individually, while the labeller applies additional safety seals across the side flap of the folding carton to offer optimum protection against manipulation.
The CPS machine and all applications, such as the camera, are operated via a single Human Machine Interface.
