Sullivan & Cromwell and Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice were the top M&A legal advisers in South & Central America in Q1-Q3 2023, according to GlobalData’s ranking of leading M&A advisers.
Sullivan & Cromwell topped the charts when measuring the value of deals, advising on $16.5bn worth of deals during the period, while Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice advised on the most transactions with a total of 14 deals.
“Machado Meyer Sendacz e Opice witnessed an increase in the number of deals advised by it during Q1-Q3 2023 compared to Q1-Q3 2022,” said GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose. “It went ahead from occupying the second position by volume in Q1-Q3 2022 to top the chart by this metric in Q1-Q3 2023.
“Meanwhile, Sullivan & Cromwell was among the only two advisers that managed to surpass $10bn in total deal value during Q1-Q3 2023. Two of the three deals advised by Sullivan & Cromwell during Q1-Q3 2023 were billion-dollar deals [valued at or above $1bn] that also included one mega deal valued more than $10bn. Involvement in these big-ticket deals helped Sullivan & Cromwell occupy the top spot by value.”
An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Appleby Global Group came second in terms of value, by advising on $13.3bn worth of deals, followed by Kirkland & Ellis with $5.8bn, Debevoise & Plimpton with $5.4bn, and Cravath Swaine & Moore with $4.3bn.
Measured by number of transactions, Demarest Advogados occupied the second place with 11 deals, followed by Bronstein, Zilberberg, Chueiri & Potenza Advogados with 11 deals, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom with 10 deals, and Lefosse Advogados with eight deals.
