Loadhog’s glass bottle packaging system Smartstak has been upgraded with the addition of Smartcap, a universal plastic reusable capping tray,to optimise the transportation of glass bottles and jars.
When used along with Smartstak’s key component Smartpad, Smartcap creates another complete, intelligent glass bottle packaging system, which claims to eliminate cardboard capping trays used predominantly in Europe, in addition to shrink wrapping.
Smartpads are the injection moulded waved edged layers in the Smartstak system, and ensure pallet stability, allowing bottles to be added to each layer or even complete layers to a pallet, packagingeurope reported.
The Smartcap with an active hinge feature does not require any assembly, which will eliminate manual labour or erection equipment costs unlike existing cardboard trays.
It retains the top layer of bottles, by holding the necks securely in place and avoiding deforms during shrouding to protect bottles.
The Smartcap reduces the cost of one-trip, disposable packaging and associated CO2 emissions, as well as improving hygiene and wet weather performance by providing a waterproof barrier with no spoiled pallets.
